We often get questions about our MiniBoss. There are about 5 saws in and around this range that vary in cost and customers often query about the differences.

So here it is in a nutshell.

• MS170 - 14" Bar/Chain, 1.3kW, the very most entry level saw. Made in a quality controlled Stihl owned factory in China. Most like the MS171.
• MS180 - 16" Bar/Chain, 1.5kW, the next step up from the MS170MS with a little more power and bar length while still having the same weight. A good step up if you want to cut larger material. Made in a quality controlled Stihl owned factory in China. Most like the MS181.
• MS171 - 14" Bar/Chain and the same specs in general as the MS170, with no more power (although a little heavier). The main advantages to a MS171 over a MS170 is it has anti-vibration, improved air filtration and tool free filler caps. Made in the USA. 
  
• MS181 - 16" Bar/Chain and the same specs in general as the MS180, with no more power (although a little heavier). The main advantages to a MS181 over a MS180 is it has anti-vibration, improved air filtration, metal dog teeth and tool free filler caps. Made in the USA. 
• MS181C - 16" Bar/Chain the same specs and features as the MS181C. The MS181C is the first easy-start model in the Stihl chainsaw range. With less compression in the pull start and a primer bulb these machines are a DREAM to start. Definitely worth the extra dollars in my opinion. AND BONUS... tool free tensioning is also a feature on this "C" saws so you don't need to carry any tools when you're out in the field.
